Resumen

The research was conducted in the Huánuco Region, at the Olerícola and Fruit Research Center (CIFO) of the National University Hermilio Valdizán, with the objective of obtaining a balanced food from potato peel (Solanum tuberosum), bran and soya cake extruded at 90 °C, for the fattening of guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus). A completely randomized design was applied with three treatments: CTL (balanced feed based on maize and soybean)), CPD (balanced feed with maize replaced by dehydrated potato peel and CPEx (extruded feed containing potato peel and soybean). There were 8 male and 8 female guinea pigs on each treatment. There were no differences in weight gain and feed conversion between the maize diet and that with the maize replaced by dehydrated potato peel. However, with the extruded diet containing otto peel, the weight gain was improved by 36% and the conversion by 27% in the male guinea pigs, with similar effects for the females. There were no differences between treatments regarding the flavor and texture attributes of the meat.
